20 Apr The World I Know
This was my last Song of the Day to my mailing list. I am starting backwards…picking up strings from where I left them on 27 July, 2014.
But it makes sense. The song still makes sense. Strange, but perhaps that is how life is. Certain moments of our live repeat again and again, in different shapes and forms.
For the uninitiated, the Song of the Day (SOTD) was a song I picked for that particular day, which I sent to a select group of connoisseurs of music, along with its lyrics, Youtube link & some thoughts on it.
The World I Know – Collective Soul
“Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on. I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don’t know why.
Are we listening?
Hymns of offering. Have we eyes to see?
Love is gathering. All the words that I’ve been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding into one.
So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down.’
Cause it’s the world I know. It’s the world I know.”
No, I am not depressed. I am not sure what is happening to the world, and if I like it. In the big picture, I am sensing a much bigger awareness, awakening, etc.
But in the nitty gritties, I feel empty. I am feeling a new distance from many people, and a new closeness to those who perhaps don’t even exist in my life. It is one of those things that cannot be explained in words. The songs help a little bit.
